The Biosensor Research Center is one of three centers affiliated with the Cellular and Molecular Sciences Research Institute under the Research Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. It began its activities in 2008 under the name "Biosensor Group" and was upgraded to a Research Center in 2012.
The Biosensor Research Center operates in a highly specialized and effective manner to develop knowledge, localize, and apply methods for identifying and measuring analytes using biological elements and nanomaterials. The design of biosensors has seen significant growth in various fields of biology and medicine over the past two decades. Recently, the development of nanobiosensors has greatly increased the sensitivity of measurement methods. These methods not only aid research in the unknowns of biological and medical sciences and the mechanisms of certain diseases and disorders, but also play a role in diagnosing and treating diseases, identifying their causes and contributing factors, as well as in related fields such as pharmaceuticals, advanced drug delivery systems, and the discovery and evaluation of new drugs and their biological activity.
To date, the primary application of biosensors has been in medical diagnostics and laboratory sciences. Currently, glucose biosensors are among the most successful on the market, used to measure blood glucose levels in diabetic patients. This research center specifically focuses on designing diagnostic and therapeutic methods for endocrine and metabolic diseases. One of the goals of this center is to collect, organize, and classify relevant documents, articles, and materials, as well as to train human resources in the field of biosensor and nanobiosensor design for the identification and measurement of analytes.
Additionally, the center aims to encourage and engage researchers, and to attract attention and collaboration from relevant research and executive centers both domestically and internationally. Creating and strengthening interdisciplinary connections, along with applying the results of fundamental research, are among the significant advantages of this research center.
